The importance of our work

"Food insecurity isn't an issue of charity, it's an issue of justice."

By providing healthy food within people's own community, we can improve personal behavior for a positive response which prevents negative outcomes. In return, we can create healthier family environments, design safer neighborhoods, and improve economic foundations for working individuals.

Our numbers

Thirty-eight million Americans are food insecure, which means they do not know if they have enough to feed themselves and their families.

In San Diego County about 450,000 people face food insecurity every day including 177,000 are children.

Together, we can end hunger.

Hope is Here

We work hard to provide many resources as possible when they most need it, where they most feel comfortable to receive it without asking why they need assistance.

Nobody should feel ashamed for receiving a box of food.

Kids
Meals

Children need healthy food to grow and succeed, yet 177,000 kids in San Diego County do not have adequate access to nutritious meals.

Our work feeding children is an investment in their bright futures, providing them with opportunities to reach their full potential and laying the right foundations to break the cycle of poverty.

Proud Parents

Family
Love

With limited budgets, our neighbors in need are often forced to choose inexpensive, unhealthy food options in order to feed themselves and their families. Through our mission we inspire healthy and positive lifestyles.

Close to 90% of the food we distribute is considered highly nutritious and culturally sensitive foods.

Family Time

Babies
Hope

1 in 3 families in the U.S. cannot afford diapers. Diapers and other non-food baby essentials can impact finances of low-income families as they are not federally funded by most public assistance programs such as SNAP or WIC.

No parent should have to make the impossible choice between food and diapers for their child.

Equity Statement

We have three years providing food and promoting healthy eating in San Diego County, those three years has taught us that the challenge of hunger is often rooted in a system of racial, gendered, and financial inequity. These issues are embedded in the barriers often raised by systemic racism.

We have an affirmative and continued responsibility to create and support equitable outcomes for those we serve. We know this focus on social justice is a transformation from where we have come as a charitable organization.

Our goal is to ensure that everyone feels heard, respected, and valued as we recognize that privilege, unconscious bias, and racial, ethnic, and financial injustice affects our team members and those within the communities we serve.
